EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based form of therapy that uses bilateral stimulation to process and resolve symptoms and unease that have resulted from disturbing experiences.
EMDR can be utilized in several specific areas to resolve a given disturbance or maladaptive patterns. This can include larger traumas- situations where you were unsafe, having survived something scary, or terrible. Or perhaps there is a present behavior or way of your being that you’re unsatisfied with and are feeling limited by. Perhaps you’ve experienced a loss- be that a relationship, a passing of someone, or loss of a way of life. EMDR can be very effective when a person is ready and has capacity to be present with the challenge and pain of their experience.
As I was interested in having a specific and effective tool and method to support the resolution of trauma. I pursued and completed training with the Parnell Institute in Attachment Focused EMDR in 2022-2023.
Trauma Informed Care
Trauma Informed Care Is holding a consideration and understanding that on an individual level we uniquely experience impact. What one person experiences as impact or trauma may not be experienced as such by someone else. We each have had unique upbringings, have lived in different environments, and were parented in different ways. All of these factors and more contribute to the way we experience the world. Trauma informed care considers our being and development- recognizing individual’s neurological, biological, psychological, and social effects.
